The parts of a day
What each part is for
The names on the week are the same in every studio.
- Every day
Morning meeting
The studio sits in a circle, says what it is working on and what it needs, and hears the plan for the day.
- Every morning
Project studio
A long block with no bell. Children work on the project alone or in groups while the teachers move between them.
- Monday and Tuesday
Workshops
Short lessons in reading, writing and math for the children who need that skill next, taught to a small group.
- Wednesday
Making studio
Wood, clay and cloth, with a teacher showing each tool before a child picks it up.
- Thursday
Out in the city
Small groups go out with an adult to talk with people who know a subject, and to see it in the place itself.
- Friday
Critique and all-school meeting
Children show work in progress and hear what others notice. Then the whole school meets, and the older students take a turn running it.
Spend a morning with us
Sit at the side of a studio for a project block, and ask the teachers anything.
