8:30 am – 8:45 am
Project-based K-8, East Providence
One long project at a time
At Theorem, children spend six weeks on one question, in studios that hold three grades together. They make it, test it, make it again, and then show their families.

How a project goes
One project, six weeks
A project is the main work of the term, and it has the same shape in every studio.
- 01Week 1
Step 1: Choose a question
The studio brings ideas, argues for them and picks one question worth six weeks.
- 02Week 2
Step 2: Find out
Children read, visit, interview and measure, and write down what they learn in a notebook.
- 03Week 3
Step 3: Make a first version
A draft, a model, a map or a recording: rough on purpose, made to be looked at.
- 04Week 4
Step 4: Test it and hear critique
The studio looks at each first version together and says what it sees.
- 05Week 5
Step 5: Make it again
A second version, with new materials and the skills picked up along the way.
- 06Week 6
Step 6: Show it
Families come to an exhibition night, and children explain how they made what they made.
