Questions
What families ask us
How does admissions work?
You visit, you apply in the winter, and every family hears back in March. The admissions page lists each step and the months they fall in.
When are the open house and visit mornings?
There is an open house in early November, and visit mornings run most Wednesdays from October to March. The key dates are on the admissions page.
Can we visit before we apply?
Yes. A visit is a morning at the side of a studio, and a talk with the head of school afterward. Children are welcome to come along.
What is a day like?
A morning meeting, then a long block on the project, lunch and outdoor time, and an afternoon that changes by day: workshops, the making studio, a trip out in the city or Friday critique. The studio week shows each one.
What is a six-week project?
One question that a studio works on for a term: choosing it, finding out, making a first version, hearing critique, making it again and showing it. The project page lists the six steps.
How is a child known without grades?
Teachers keep a portfolio for each child and write to families each term in full sentences, and families meet a teacher twice a year. The head of school can show you what a report looks like at a visit.
How big are the classes?
Each studio has a class size on the program matrix, with three teachers in the room. The head of school can tell you the numbers for this year at a visit.
What do older and younger children do together?
Each studio holds three grades, and every child works on the same project at a level that suits them. Older children often explain their work to younger ones, and younger ones ask the questions.
Is there care before and after school?
Yes, on every school day, and it is open to children from any studio. It is billed apart, by the month, for the days a family uses.
How do tuition and financial aid work?
Tuition is set by the year and the studio, and the school gives its figures at a visit. Financial aid is available; the tuition page explains how to apply.
Still have a question?
Write to the office, or ask on a visit morning.
